Have you been told you are an empath, a sensitive, or toxic energy is just drawn to you? Do you find yourself engaging in one destructive relationship after another without reprieve? Sometimes you feel so overwhelmed with exhaustion and just need some time alone? Unfortunately, “energy vampires,” as they are called, prey on those who are empaths or otherwise open energetically. If you find yourself seemingly trapped time and again in a vicious cycle of getting your hopes up only to find out the person you’re with never had your best intentions in mind to begin with you may be far too open and not even realize it.
It is important for empaths to protect their energy, and to shield it against toxic people.
It is particularly important to avoid engaging with “The Dark Triad.” This includes individuals who have traits of narcissism, psychopathy, and/or Machiavellianism. Why are these three personalities all included in psychology’s triangular representation of evil? Because these individuals all harbor a complete disregard for morality, a total lack of empathy, and are extremely self-centered, focusing all of their efforts on personal gain. Their only goal in life is to dominant everything and everyone in their path.
What’s even more terrifying is that most individuals who fall into at least one of these categories typically possess traits of all three. Those with the most severe cases usually engage in criminal activity, but those with mild cases can actually be quite successful. Because they lack any regard for others and they don’t care a lick about the opinions of others, they have no fear of being judged and can come across as especially socially adept and confident. They are more than willing to show off their perceived superiority to anyone willing to watch any chance they get.
Empaths, co-dependents, and others who are naturally open energetically enjoy helping others and are often a magnet for those who need help. They are also obvious targets for those who survive solely on the positive supply of others.
The Dark Triad personalities love that they can easily manipulate genuinely caring people to be at their beck and call. Empaths will immediately pick up on negative energy, so the triad takes extra care to hide their true colors for as long as possible, and because they are so good at doing so, any lingering negativity that the empath picks up on will simply be perceived as something this person can help to eliminate or “fix.”
What’s more, most people, by nature, would rather follow than lead. They are perfectly willing to stay in their comfort zone and follow the instructions of someone else. This is what makes those in The Dark Triad so powerful. They view themselves as a shepherd leading the flock. Everyone else is simply an extension of self who exists to serve them, and their pathological manipulation is very advanced.
The predator and the empath are similar in that they expend all of their energy reserves toward achieving the goals of their mind and heart. But they have polar opposite goals. The empath believes they exist to help others and those in the triad believe they exist to be helped. This is what makes the connection so very toxic. Once those in the triad trap an empath, the two are likely to engage in trauma bonding, and because it is entirely up to the empath to give up their quest and cut ties, this rarely happens.
Empaths, beware The Dark Triad! And, learn how to proactively protect your energy before it’s too late. Always trust your intuition. If you sense negativity, don’t run in, run away.
