Part of effectively healing in the aftermath of trauma means being able to do so despite what is thrown at us. We cannot expect the world around us to change. We cannot control the actions of others and we cannot ask the world to stop a moment so we can catch up.
What we can do is control ourselves, our actions, and our reactions to this world and its conventions. We must learn to live in it and heal in spite of it. We must learn how to be content with the life we have even when things are chaotic. Instead of getting ‘stressed out’ or overwhelmed, we need to alter our perception of what’s happening. We need to move to a higher vibration, one in which we’re able to continue onward in our healing journey because we value ourselves and comprehend how to protect our self-efficacy above all else.
When we understand how to operate with self-efficacy and realize this is vital to have and we’ve learned out to protect it, everything else will fall into place. We’ll come to a place where we realize that in order for us to continue giving, we also have to pause and refuel. We have to give back to ourselves before the well runs dry.
At this point, balance is restored.
When you come back into balance and you’re no longer exhausted from moving against the current, you’ll find a sense of peace that you may have never dreamed possible. And, when you realize it is possible, a whole lot of other things suddenly become possible, too.
Ever feel as if you spent your entire childhood learning how to live only to spend your entire adulthood learning how to unlearn these things? Why is it we desperately seek information in our youth and long to be old enough to be able to make our own decisions only to get there and try to forge a separate path?
Don’t get me wrong. Creativity and innovation take a desire to fight convention. We have to think outside the box and walk our own path. But, if you’re tired and worn down all the time, this is a clear sigh you’ve veered onto a side street that is not aligned with your purpose. You need to work toward getting back into alignment in order to restore balance.
You’ll know instantly when you come back into full alignment. You’ll feel a surge of energy you probably haven’t felt in a very long time – perhaps since childhood, when you could use your imagination, play, socialize, and do all of those good-for-your-heart things that seem to all too often disappear at a certain stage of life. They can go dormant, but they are retrievable. And, they’ll resurface when you feel balanced again.
So, first thing’s first. You must meditate on how you can find this balance in spite of all of the responsibilities and worries that come along with age. You have to access your inner child despite achieving what is expected of you in your day-to-day.
Open your mind to the possibility that you really can be happy – truly happy, not happy enough. You can be carefree despite having so much to care about or care for. You can smile, laugh, and feel joy. The only things holding you back is your own worry, fear, and self-doubt.
If you don’t believe it, give it a shot. Spend some time with your thoughts. Allow pieces of your memory that have perhaps been subconsciously – or even consciously – suppressed to come flooding back.
Ever hear someone say, ‘Go to your happy place?’ There’s so much more wisdom in this than what a first meets the eye. Access your happy place. Stay there a while. What did you do to get there? Whatever it took – this is the secret recipe. This is your strength. Remember the process and use it as often as is needed to come back into alignment.
Everyone’s process will be different. Everyone’s journey is different. Self-healing means understanding the self, first and foremost. Work toward self-understanding and you’ll be well on your way to sustainable peace.
Break the silence, break the cycle.
