When we undergo trauma, it tends to stick with us. Perhaps this is an understatement – it can be all-consuming if we let it. Often our thoughts are flooded with flashbacks and paranoia which physical manifests as anxiety, panic, hypervigilance, and sleeplessness. If we do not take the necessary steps to reclaim internal peace at the soul level, we may be completely engulfed by the pain of reliving over and over again our difficult past.
It is important to focus on sustainable healing, however, rather than trying to put a band-aid on our wounded soul. A band-aid is only temporary. We cannot turn to fleeting methods of healing or self-destructive behaviors and expect to regain a sense of wholeness. We must take the time to focus on ourselves, reflect on who we are, and become enlightened in the process.
Sustainable healing is possible only if we make a daily commitment to preserve our well-being one day at a time.
Healing is a lifelong process that never stops. We cannot expect to wake up one day having completely forgot about what happened altogether and be able to spend the rest of our days in the bliss of complete oblivion. The trauma we experienced will always be a part of us, so we must learn to continually nurture this part of self. In doing so, we acknowledge and accept what has happened rather than working to suppress it, and we vow to take action steps to ensure we are able to move past what’s happened so we can live fully in this next stage of life.
When we undergo significant trauma, it changes us.
We are impacted deeply, at the soul level. And, there is no band-aid big enough for a wounded soul. This isn’t to say we can’t patch it up, however. Although trauma always changes us, it does not have to change us for the worse. We can choose to learn from what we went through and allow it to give us insight into who we truly are at the soul level.
If you choose to ignore the need for self-love and allow resentment and shame to fester inside, pretty soon the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder will become entirely unmanageable. This is why it is so very important to make a commitment to self to do some deep work and heal from the inside out.
Healing means learning how to preserve your energy.
Only by safeguarding our positive energy can we ward off the bad and ensure we are moving forward rather than stagnating or retreating into an unhealthy state. Preserving positive energy could mean you cannot take on as many commitments as you used to be able to. It may mean you have to choose a more rewarding and less strenuous career path. It may mean spending a few extra minutes of each day alone, allowing yourself time to process. Protect your energy at all costs and it will be enough to sustain you.
Soul healing takes real work.
It is not a one and done process and you won’t completely heal overnight. But it is a necessary part of growing in the post-trauma state. The more work your put in, the more sustainable your efforts will be. So, start today. You’re worth it.
