FForge a sustainable path to trauma recovery by practicing some balance and you will, in time, reach all of your goals. Otherwise, you’re bound to give up before you’re able to. This means ensuring you give yourself enough time to reconnect with self through quiet moments of reflection, going inward and understanding how you feel in the present moment. This is the practice of mindfulness. Get into the habit of employing mindful strategies daily.
Exercise is good for us, and so is rest. It’s all about balance. We want to allow our bodies to perform at optimum levels, so our minds can follow suit. After all, it’s true, when we look good, we feel good. We also need an alternative avenue toward which we can redirect our energy. In the beginning, especially before we have conquered mindfulness, we’ll need to keep our minds busy. But, just our minds. The rest of us can relax.
Ease into helping others, too, so you don’t overextend. Confidence comes when we strike a balance between our needs and the needs of others. We’re able to accomplish our goals, but we aren’t afraid of considering our own well-being in the process. This is the ‘make it’ stage. If we can confidently say we are happy with ourselves and the direction our life has taken, and we are excited for next steps, we’ve made it. If we can truly and honestly say this, while promising to continue checking in every day, we’ve reached a level of confidence that is impenetrable by the trauma of our former selves and cannot be wiped away, even amid future ailments.
You must remember that you can only control yourself. You cannot control others or the world around you. In order to realize peace, you must accept this – truly accept it. It’s vital to trauma recovery. Working each day to realign your energy and begin working inward instead of focusing reserves outward will eventually restore balance, because you are choosing to gain a better understanding of what you are actually able to change, and change starts within. Once you’ve mastered this, you can move to external healing.
As you become more mindful of how your brain operates, you become more in control of your thoughts and reactions. You are, therefore, more likely to be immediately aware of anything in your environment which throws you off balance and you can quickly restore balance by eliminating troubling stimuli from re-entering your space.
You’ll still need to maintain balance in order to stay at peace. Remember this as you move forward in your healing journey and make a commitment to sustainable recovery.
