You, and only you, have the power to decide to move forward into this next phase of life determined to rebuild and rediscover yourself so you can once again feel whole. Healing from the inside out is essential. Nothing in your external world will fill the void, and thus, you must start with your internal self and understand what it needs to be happy in order to attract those things externally that will help you to accomplish this.
You must make a conscious effort to choose self-betterment. Rather than internalizing the pain and quietly living in misery, choosing to carry its weight, make a pact with yourself to rise above it. You’ve released yourself from your trauma, what are you doing to work on changing for the better? What are you doing right now to be happy?
The past cannot be changed, and the future remains uncertain, so we have to focus on the present. This is the concept of mindfulness. We have the power to decide to live in the present moment and check-in daily to see what we’re doing to achieve a better life than the one in which we were plagued with trauma.
After rising above the ashes and being given new life, you will quickly realize you are a product of your choices. You chose to take a chance to make a change and left the trauma that was tying you down behind you. Only you can decide to continue on from here and rediscover yourself.
Again, healing is lifelong. It isn’t a one and done task – it’s a process, and one that should never be rushed. Everyone’s journey is different, but everyone’s journey is just that – a journey. We are forever on a road to self-discovery – stay open-minded.
Lifelong healing involves lifelong learning. Questions will inevitably arise time and again the more in tune you become with this journey of self-understanding and discovery. The more you know, the less you know, right? Isn’t it true? As you uncover the reasons behind the way you feel and do the things you do as a trauma survivor, the more questions you’ll inevitably have.
Allow yourself to ask those questions, perhaps especially during times of mindful meditation. Then, don’t be afraid to explore. Self-discovery can be daunting only because we’re conditioned to believe ignorance is bliss and it’s best not to delve too depth. This is a fallacy. Having unanswered questions about yourself will weigh on you more than any newfound knowledge you garner. There is peace in understanding and knowledge is power.
