Healing is lifelong. We cannot expect to drop the process entirely one day and continue onward without slipping back into negativity. We have to wake up each day determined to make it a good one and recite daily positive affirmations, so we feel empowered to continue on a path that will never end.
It is important to realize that each day we start anew, our energy is reset, and we are given a new opportunity to follow this path. We can decide to continue on the journey or not. This is a daily decision. But we have to keep deciding, or we will stagnate, and symptoms of post-traumatic stress will take over once again.
Not all good things must come to an end. Recovery is one of those things. If you begin to feel stuck and unimpressed by the direction your life is taking, or your efforts are no longer serving you and your journey, switch things up a bit. Maybe you need a change of scenery, new social opportunities, a new goal, or a new past-time.
Anytime we begin to feel this way, the universe is telling us that we need to pay closer attention. Answer its call. Practice mindfulness and heartfulness and try to understand what is causing you to feel incomplete and what you can do to change this.
Never ignore feelings of discomfort. Always take this as a sign that you need to learn something and pay attention. The more this becomes second nature the less you’ll feel stuck, because you will become naturally inclined to recognize this and unstick yourself as soon as possible.
Taking the time to listen to internal cues will ward off PTSD symptoms and keep you moving forward without an end in sight. Is work getting too demanding and you need to spend more time with family? Is family getting too demanding and you need to spend more time by yourself? Do you need to switch careers altogether or just switch your position at work? Do you need to get away for a while, or have things been so busy, you’re overdue for a stay-cation?
Whatever it is, you will intuitively know what to do once you’ve given yourself a few minutes of peace to figure it out. Then, do it. Whatever it takes, make the time. It can seem impossible, but once you begin to take action steps, you’ll probably find it’s a lot easier than you think. So, don’t overthink – do.
When we start becoming more in tune with ourselves and focused on self-wellness, a beautiful thing happens. We begin to emit this undeniably contagious energy that others start to ask about. They’ll start to want what you’ve got – the whole world in your hands. Don’t give up, show up. Again and again, for yourself and for those around you.
Life is what you make of it. You couldn’t control the circumstances that led you to this point, but you can always control what you do moving forward. Find beauty in life’s most difficult lessons and you’ll realize you really have nothing left to fear.
